چکیده

We consider embedded hypersurfaces evolving by fully nonlinear flows in which the normal speed of motion is a homogeneous degree one, concave or convex function of the principal curvatures, and prove a noncollapsing estimate: Precisely, the function which gives the curvature of the largest interior sphere touching the hypersurface at each point is a subsolution of the linearized flow equation if the speed is concave. If the speed is convex then there is an analogous statement for exterior spheres. In particular, if the hypersurface moves with positive speed and the speed is concave in the principal curvatures, then the curvature of the largest touching interior sphere is bounded by a multiple of the speed as long as the solution exists. The proof uses a maximum principle applied to a function of two points on the evolving hypersurface. We illustrate the techniques required for dealing with such functions in a proof of the known containment principle for flows of hypersurfaces.

Motion of Level Set by General Curvature

In this paper, we study the motion of level sets by general curvature. The difficulty in this setting is for a general curvature function, it’s only well defined in an admissible cone. In order to extend the existence result to outside the cone we introduce a new approximation function f̂ (see (3.1)). Moreover, using the idea in [5], we give an elliptic approach for the Ben-Andrews’ non-collapsi...

2DV Nonlinear k-ε Turbulence Modeling of Stratified Flows

The commonly used linear k-ε turbulence model is shown to be incapable of accurate prediction of turbulent flows, where non-isotropy is dominant. Two examples of non-isotropic flows, which have a wide range of applications in marine waters, are saline water flow and the stratified flows due to temperature gradients. These relate to stratification and consequently, variation of density through...

Surface Evolution under Curvature Flows

In many areas of computer vision, such as multiscale analysis and shape description, an image or surface is smoothed by a nonlinear parabolic partial differential equation to eliminate noise and to reveal the large global features. An ideal flow, or smoothing process, should not create new features. In this paper we describe in detail the effect of a number of flows on surfaces on the parabolic...

Repeated games for eikonal equations, integral curvature flows and non-linear parabolic integro-differential equations

The main purpose of this paper is to approximate several non-local evolution equations by zero-sum repeated games in the spirit of the previous works of Kohn and the second author (2006 and 2009): general fully non-linear parabolic integro-differential equations on the one hand, and the integral curvature flow of an interface (Imbert, 2008) on the other hand. In order to do so, we start by cons...
